Rongchang paper fans:
Rongchang County is noted for its folding fans. The paper fan is at
once a gracious personal accessory and a very effective, low-tech,
on-demand personal cooling device.
With more than 300 varieties, these types of folding fans are all
made with superior craftsmanship. Folding fans are one of the articles
of everyday use and a special type of handicraft. |

is almost 450 years since the first Rongchang paper fan was made.
Since then, the fan has enjoyed unique renown domestically and internationally.
It was exported to India and Burma hundreds of years ago. At first,
only the nobility could afford to buy the elegant- made fans. In the
past several decades, new materials have been rapidly innovated to
make the fan and the original few have now expanded into 345 different
types. |
