Shu brocade:
Shu brocade (also known as Sichuan brocade), soft in feel and flamboyant
in color, has a history of over two thousand years, and it is one
of the four best and most famous brocades in China along with Nanjing
Brocade, Suzhou Brocade and Guangxi Brocade.
Developed over more than twenty centuries, over several hundred types
have evolved and brocade has become an integral part of the ornament
of women in the ethnic groups from southwestern China. However, handmade
brocade has given way to modern textile industries and there is only
one factory in the city that specializes in making Sichuan Brocade.
Shu Brocade is a kind of silk fabric, which has more than 2000 years'
history. There are many styles of it. As the modern textile industry
develops the production of Chengdu Shu Brocade shrinks day after day.
Now there is only one factory, that is Chengdu Shu Brocade Factory.
The main Shu brocade goods here are the facing of the quilt, the materials
of clothes and a lot of decorative brocade. The styles of brocade
are Fangfang brocade, Yuehua brocade, Yushi brocade, Huanhua brocade,
Pudi brocade, Sanhua brocade and some other kinds. Shu Brocade is
a kind of silk goods; it is very soft and colorful. It has many kinds
and is very durable.
Shu embroidery
Shu embroidery is a kind of traditional craft of Sichuan; it has strong
expression and and artistic effect. The features of it are said as
"fine and smooth needlework, simple and elegant colors, graceful
and easy lines and the traditional Chinese paintings' style ".
There are many kinds of it, such as the facing of the quilts, the
pillowcases, embroidered slippers and some other decorative goods.
The main factories of producing Shu embroidery are the Chengdu Shu
Embroidery Factory which is on the Caotang eastern road in the western
suburb and the Hanhuang Embroidery House which is in the No.11 Heping
Street in the city.
It is one of the most famous Chinese embroideries. It is also called
"Chuan embroidery", for it is mainly produced around Chengdu,
Sichuan Province. It is distributed in the countryside nearby Chengdu.
Yang Xiong in the Han Dynasty once composed an eulogy of Shu embroidery
. The History of Dongyang Kingdom printed in the Dong Jin Period called
Shu embroidery and Shu brocade the two treasures of Middle Sichuan.
In the Daoguang Period of the Qing Dynasty, many embroidery workshops
were set up. The embroidery took locally- produced colorful satin
and threads as its materials. The threads are neatly and thickly used,
and the colors are elegantly arranged. Its needling characteristics
lie in "the even stitches, bright threads, closeness and softness
in texture, and both centrifugal and centripetal needling." Its
products include mirror curtain, lace, wedding dress, scroll, hats
and shoes, skirts, quilt facing, etc. It mainly employs the themes
of auspicious happiness.
Shu embroidery is one of the most famous embroidery in China. It has
another name "Chuan embroidery" which is the embroidery
floorboard in the center of Chengdu. The producing areas of Shu embroidery
fasten at Chengdu, Chongqing, Wenjiang, Beixian etc. area. With the
long history, it is called "the treasure in the Shu area"
together with Shu brocade.
Primarily, Shu embroidery was very popular in the folk, after the
middle of Qing dynasty, formed the calling, especially the Kowloon
alley and Kejia alley. The country feudal officials at that present
set up the embroidery office in "working bureau". The variety
of products in soft damask and colorful silk consisted of uniform,
gift, lace, clothes, dowry, screen etc. which had unique technique,
at least 100 of the excellent stitch such as colorful clothes, wonderful
double embroidery. In modern embroidery, it has huge screen, mini
miscellaneous, top article and common consumable. For example, the
huge "lotus and carp" screen in the Sichuan hall of people
council house; the top grade Shu embroidery screen of "beauties
playing music in the Shu palace"; the screen of "carp in
the aquatic" with different colors in double side; the screen
of "big and small panda", which are all the representatives
of Shu embroidery. |
