Huishan
Clay Figurines:
Clay figurines represent another type of folk art in China because
they are much liked for their vivid and amusing expressions. Having
been famous since the Ming Dynasty, and is most noted for its imaginative
design and exquisite craftsmanship. The principal material for making
these figurines is porcelain clay. Wuxi has supplied the fine, sticky
clay needed for molding the figurines from Huishan Mountain for thousands
of years. The finished products are very durable and will not crack
in many years.
The delightful clay figurines from Huishan are hand-painted sculptures
in an exaggerated, romantic style. They are extremely lifelike. The
figures are three to four inches in height, dressed in bright clothes
and wearing cheerful expressions. Many of the figurines produced here
reflect contemporary literary and people's daily life.
Fresh Water Pearls:
Fresh water pearl has a history longer than does any other gems. About
2,300 years ago, natural pearls were being strung into necklaces in
China. As a symbol of wealth, no other gem is as simple, elegant and
sensual as a pearl. Pearls were once thought to be the tears of God.
Most of Chinese fresh water Pearls are growled in the lakes. The Wuxi
Fresh water Pearls are from Taihu Lake, has bright color and natural
round shape with large size.. The fresh-water pearls are not only
the precious jewelry but also the traditional Chinese medicine. Pearl
powder can be used to make people sleep well and stopping coughing.
It is also effective for maintaining the tenderness of lady's skin,
so was used by the empresses as cosmetics in the ancient time. |
