Colorful Lanterns

The lantern making is a folk art dated back to 1,000 years ago in China. With beautiful shapes, gorgeous designs and novel patterns, they come in various vivid forms, such as fish, rabbit, chicken, turtle, duck, sheep, pig and flowers. Some of the lanterns can revolve, while some can play music and others flash with laser lights. The lanterns were made by craftsman skilled in metal and woodworking, drawing and oil painting, weaving and embroidery. Zhenjiang is the major area in southern of China where people make silk and paper lanterns. Zhenjiang lanterns are famous for their unique designs, great varieties and high quality of the craftsmanship. There are many large-scale lanterns made in Zhenjiang and the most famous one is the Two Dragon Lantern which have been displayed on the international fair and attracted hundred thousands of visitors.
 
Silk Products (Silk Fabric, Silk Velvet, Silk Rugs & Tapestry)

Silk production in Zhenjiang has a long history. As early as the Tang and Song dynasties, the jiangchou silk, satin and brocade were already imperial tributes. In 1909, the Jiangchou silk was awarded a gold medal at the South Asia Fair. By now, the city can produce several dozen types of silk fabric including dyed silk, printed silk, silk velvet, and brocade with raised floral designs. These are products exported to many countries.

Also Zhenjiang produces all kinds of hand-woven figure rugs and tapestry in bright colors and elegant designs. The specifications range from 1 to 216 square feet. In 1986 national silk rugs and tapestry competition, design and quality of the products were among the best.

Embroidery

A great variety of the products are put out in Zhenjiang. Beautiful scenery, ancient female figures and delicate flowers are among the varied patterns used. Embroidered pillowcases, bedspreads, caps and cloaks with novel designs and fine craftsmanship are sold well at home and abroad. The most famous embroidery piece is a nine-dragon bedspread cited for its high quality as an Outstanding Quality Tourist Product at the national level.

Wickerwork

A specialty to Zhenjiang, wickerwork could be items of practical use and articles of an artistic value used for decoration. Among Zhenjiang's wickerwork products are included sun-caps used in summer, whole set of tea tables, wicker furniture and wall hangings.

Soft toys
Made of plush, nylon, cotton flannel and fur, the toys are in various species of animals, attractive in design, and bright in color, much sought after on international markets.
